Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is an in-office procedure, done under local anesthesia and takes around 30 minutes. It is commonly used to treat wrinkles, skin damage caused by sun exposure, skin pigmentation, age spots, acne or acne scars, and freckles.
Women as young as 30 years old can benefit from chemical peels. In fact, they are a great way to delay the signs of aging or avoid a more invasive cosmetic procedure. Different peels exist, the one that Dr. Abi Akl likes the most is the TCA( trichloroacetic acid) peel and there are different concentrations in the market. The selection of the concentration depends on the skin quality and the area to be treated. TCA peel will cause the old skin to peel off and stimulate the growth of a new, younger skin.
What is the recovery period?
You may develop some redness and swelling over the treated area for couple of days, that will gradually resolve over the next week. Your skin will start to peel off in the coming 1 to 2 weeks as the new, softer skin appears. It is recommended to use sunscreen and hydrate your skin after chemical peels to avoid hyperpigmentation.
During your consultation, Dr. Abi Akl will guide you through all the available options of skin resurfacing and together will decide on the best treatment for your case. There is no one size fits all procedure, each case is customized to meet your goal.
