Neck Lift

Some patients may only complain of sagging skin along their neck and jawline with no evidence of aging in the face or midface, some may complain of double chin or turkey neck. Neck lift is ideal for these cases. This procedure can be done under local or sedation anesthesia, it usually takes 1 hour and involves hidden submental and 2 behind the ear small incisions. During the surgery liposuction and lipocountouring of the neck and jawline is performed and the need for a platsymaplasty (tightening of the neck muscle) is decided on a case by case basis. Chin augmentation can be added to this procedure for better definition of chin and the jawline.

Jowls result from volume loss in the prejowl area and from depletion of collagen and elasticity in the lower face. It usually appears in women in their mid 40’s. if you are not considering surgery to lift the jowls, there are non invasive approaches such as fillers to lift them. Fillers are injected in the prejowl sulcus to smooth out the sagging jowl. You need to remember that fillers are temporary and they do not replace a surgical facelift.

Necklift can be done alone or in combination with eyelid surgery, brow surgery, forehead surgery, fat grafting, laser resurfacing or chemical peel, depending on the case.

What is Platysma?

The platysma is the muscle that covers the jawline down to the collar bone. It is also the main cause of banding in the neck.

Platysmaplasty or platysma tightening can be done under local anesthesia, it takes approximately 1 hour and result in a softer and younger neck.

Am I a good candidate?

If you are complaining of the following, then yes you are.

  • Vertical bands in the neck results from looseness in the neck muscles
  • double-chin or “turkey neck”
  • Excess fat near the jawline resulting in jowls
  • Skin sagging resulting in a blunted jawline
What about the scars?

After you have completely healed, the scars will become barely visible.

What is the recovery period?

You need to expect swelling and bruising for the first week. The swelling will improve gradually over the next 2 to 3 weeks. The stitches are usually removed after 5 to 7 days.
