Facial Paralysis

Bell’s palsy, the most common cause of facial paralysis, causes weakness of one hemiface. Patients will have significant problems in chewing, smiling and closing their eyes…  There are different theories behind the cause of Bell’s palsy; whether it is an autoimmune disease or a viral infection, the symptoms are the same, so is the treatment. It is very important to seek medical attention as soon as possible to get the adequate treatment. However, sometimes Bell’s palsy may have permanent sequels and result in permanent weakness. Fortunately Dr. Abi Akl can either use botox injections on the healthy side to achieve symmetry, or can perform a variety of surgeries to restore facial symmetry and functionality.
