Lasers
Laser treatment is an in-office procedure, done under local anesthesia and takes around 30 minutes. It is quick and provides amazing results for a wide range of skin concerns, especially on the face. It can be used to treat or improve rosacea, hyperpigmentation, vascular lesions, scars, wrinkles, birthmarks, acne, etc.
The most commonly used laser for skin resurfacing is the CO2 laser. It is very potent, very efficient, non invasive and helps you get rid of wrinkles, scars and sun damage effects on your skin. It removes the skin layer by layer; the harmed outer layer of the epidermis is taken off while the inner layer is heated. This stimulate a new skin to form and the production of collagen and elastin which will result in a softer and younger skin. This procedure can be done solely or along with facelift, blepharoplasty, cheek lift, etc. Co2 laser can be used to resurface the forehead or the areas around the eyes and mouth, or to resurface the whole face and neck.
What is the recovery period?
You may develop some redness and swelling over the treated area for couple of days, that will gradually resolve over the next week. Your skin will start to peel off in the coming 1 to 2 weeks as the new, softer skin appears. It is recommended to use sunscreen and hydrate your skin after laser therapy to avoid hyperpigmentation. Bear in mind that 1 or more sessions may be needed.
During your consultation, Dr. Abi Akl will guide you through all the available options of skin resurfacing and together will decide on the best treatment for your case. There is no one size fits all procedure, each case is customized to meet your goal.
